There is a huge difference in the techniques adopted in kids soccer drills to train kids in comparison to those who are in high school or college. This is because the former are in the first stage of the learning curve while the latter have a good idea as to what is it that they prefer to do and what not.

But, there are certain methods that can be used in soccer drills for kids which will help them become exceptional soccer players. Always keep in mind the fact that kids must enjoy playing soccer if their interest is to be retained in the game. They will feel pressured if their interest continues to decline. Kids Soccer Drills: How To warm Up Correctly

It’s amazing to see that the value of warming up in kids soccer drills is underestimated. As a coach, I just cannot emphasize enough that warming up before sessions is not just mandatory but also a great way to kick start your training sessions. This issue is conveniently ignored as unimportant by the coaches in youth soccer drills. This has an end result in terms of injuries to players when in the practice sessions.

This article will provide you an insight into warming up techniques for the team. Teach the kids to include all the body movements that allow all muscles in the body to get worked up. This is the right way to wake up the entire nervous system. If the movements are intense, body could become stiff or develop cramps.

Tip 1: Have the players jog for about 5-7 minutes initially. A few minutes of jogging and then moving on to sprinting is the best proposition. Check that the pulse rate in this reaches 120 beats per minute. Yet, the rate should increase gradually. This should be followed by players moving their legs backward and forward for approximately 10 minutes each. Lastly, have them actively stretch their body over 20 yards.

Tip 2: Having said that, do remember that even this active stretching over 20 yards comes with some warm up drills of its own. Like the players can bounce backward and forward. The players can also be taught cross stepping. Also teach them high-knee carioca. These must be executed as if sprinting.

In soccer drills for kids, an extremely helpful warm up drill is backward running. However the right way to do it is to kick up the heels to the butt. No matter how difficult it may be to practice this but it’s the sole method or performing it accurately.

Tip 3: There are various other warm up drills in kids soccer drills that build up the energy for practice sessions. Have your players bounce with rings and swings. These give an extra dimension to the skipping exercises. The players can also be told to do cross-over bounce. Quick Hip Swings, though it’s slightly complex, can also be used to warm up the body intensively as it’s a very valuable and tested means.

After that, have the players do the long shuffles along with twists halfway. The players should be made to practice moving their legs backward and forward. It has the effect of toning the body in an effective and easy way. High leg forwards and backward is just as efficient in toning the body.

Tip 4: Stretch adequately and complete it in the approved manner. For the legs, stretch hinging works the best. Guarantee that all kids work out their hamstring, groin, calf muscles, and quadriceps without missing any of these. Stretching not only prevents injury but also increases the range of the muscles.

It is also essential to note that in soccer drills for youth, kids abstain from overdoing anything. The kids get carried over in excitement and end up injuring themselves for no reason due to this.

In kids soccer drills, it’s surprising that warm up before playing is considered unimportant. As a coach, I just cannot emphasize enough that warming up before sessions is not just mandatory but also a great way to kick start your training sessions. In youth soccer drills, coaches fail to take this aspect into consideration. This has an end result in terms of injuries to players when in the practice sessions.

This article will provide you an insight into warming up techniques for the team. Teach the kids to include all the body movements that allow all muscles in the body to get worked up. These give an extra dimension to the skipping exercises. You can also make your players do the intersecting skipping. Quick Hip Swings is somewhat difficult to practice but it highly useful and a tried and tested technique to warm up the body.

Subsequently the players can be made to do long shuffle with spins midway. Make them practice forward and backward leg swings. It has the effect of toning the body in an effective and easy way. Equally effective are high leg forwards and backwards.

Tip 4: Stretching should be adequate and correctly executed. For the legs, stretch hinging works the best. Make sure all players have worked out their quadriceps, calves, hamstring, and groin without fail. The players not only avoid injuries but also get to increase their muscle range by stretching.

Dribbling refers to the skill of maneuvering the ball in the field while keeping its control. It is one of the first soccer skills taught to the kids at the beginning level.

Now the point is to choose the degree of importance of dribbling skills. It’s best to have the kids participate regularly in drills to help them develop dribbling skills. It aids in teaching the kids, the essential movements to play around with the ball. Dribbling has the effect of developing your ability to pass by most of the opponents while keeping the possession of the ball.

What if I told you that coaches do make such mistakes in kids soccer drills that have the potential to destroy a team and make it a loser. And it’s absolutely right. Lot of people must be busy finding out the big reason responsible for a team’s such great downfall. Well, let it be known that there are many.

When it comes to soccer drills for kids, you have to be very careful and strategic. You need to understand the psychology of the kids. Talk to the kids in a manner that they find most suitable. But sadly, most coaches are not ready to adapt to this. They do not appreciate the difference between coaching the kids and coaching mature players.

So here it is; top mistakes or sins as I call them that coaches make and put their teams on a losing track.

1. Many coaches take their jobs for granted. They do not plan the sessions, prepare the drills, or bother about reaching the field in time. Activities like these not merely put off the kids but are also terrible. You cannot be non-serious when the kids take soccer so seriously. Put together the youth soccer drills ahead of time. Any equipment required to execute the drills should be assembled in advance.

Be punctual. Make it a point to reach the field earlier than the kids. Well in fact, grace the filed with your presence when kids reach. It has the advantage of finding some extra time to practice the drills and plan other things.

2. Before the sessions, when the coaches impart instructions for kids soccer drills, they get so lost in it so as to loose track of the time. Have you ever imagined how torturous that can be! Understand that kids come to play soccer, not to hear your long lectures. Keep your words of wisdom brief and straight forward. Use this opportunity to talk to the kids about the strategy and styles that the kids should learn.

Also, do not interrupt the kids when they are playing. If you have noted anything wrong, share it after the drill has ended. Also, observe the kids from outside when they are playing.

3. Some coaches use foul language with the young players. In soccer drills for youth, both the behaviors are unacceptable. It may prove counter productive to show your emotions on the field. It is fine for the kids to make errors. Always remember that they are young. You do not need to take this to heart and get harsh with the players.

If you do, understand that you not only make the kids lose interest in the sport but also invite disciplinary action. Soccer is a game of the intelligent. Make the kids realize this and you would have motivated them.
