Ever wondered how to coach soccer or more specifically youth soccer? The phrase looks quite simple and familiar but if you give it a serious thought, a lot of things will start coming to your head.

One of the soccer skills that’s required for a player and a coach to learn is communication. A coach has to give instructions, share feedback, evaluate players, council them, maintain discipline, and all this requires communication skills.

Players, then again need an outlet to discuss performance issues with coach, peers, parents, colleagues, and share tips and tricks with relatively weak players in the team. The game of soccer acts as a common language for both players and coaches convey their feeling and thoughts.

With respect to soccer coaching, there are some beliefs that the coaches must follow and subsequently teach their players.

1.  Use the name of your players while addressing them. This is not only sound good but is also courteous.

2. Make it clear in your head what you want players to do and achieve before sending out instructions.

3.Be empathetic: The goal of communication is to connect and not to defeat. So value the opinions of others as well.

4.Watch your body language. It should be relaxed and open to convey positive feelings and get better results.

5.When addressing the team, maintain eye contact with each player one by one. Look directly into the eyes of the player you are talking to.

6.Your style of speaking should influence the person you are talking to. So adopt a style that not only defines you but also suits the other person.

7.Select a topic or issue that needs to be addressed. Communication is the key to finding answers, how to coach soccer is successful when it is short and clear-cut. Select a list of items and that’s it.

8.Be objective: Keep in mind that you are a soccer coach who is speaking to a team or a player. So remain in charge of your emotions and talk only about the points of the game.

9.Speak Clearly: It is critical that what you say is understood in the same spirit as you intended.

10.When teaching soccer, repeat the important points. The players should be reminded of the important points by repeating them in different ways.

11.Add humor to your style and words with a view to lighten up things whenever possible.

12.Devote some time and attention to your players so that they do not fear seeking clarifications from you. Allow them to ask questions.

A soccer coach without the capability to speak and distribute the information required for high performance isn’t successful in the long run.
