And so, soccer skills that a goalie possesses give him an edge over other remaining players. But this makes a coach’s job tougher and more complex when training goalkeepers for soccer.

Based on the method of play in soccer, goalkeepers are the first line of offense and last line of defense. These players don’t think twice before putting their body in harms way to stop or block the ball from getting into the goalpost. They are all so set to proceed in any direction when it comes to getting the possession of the ball.

A goalie’s training for soccer can be very challenging, keeping in view their specific role requirements and their level of play. You must also keep in mind, his mental state when you are training him/ her on all important skills and techniques.

Only one player in the team can be compared to a goalkeeper and that is the goal hungry striker. In fact, some of the best goalies have also been great strikers at one point or the other. The goalie can handle the ball only in the 18 yard box. If the ball is touched by any player’s arm other than the goalkeeper, the opposing party gets a free kick. In the case of the goalie’s team member, it is a penalty shoot from “the spot”.

Does it sound familiar when I say that stretching forms an integral part of soccer training tips and is widely recommended and practiced by almost all sportspersons? As a sport, soccer is growing and developing incessantly in its superiority.

There are two kinds of stretching; static and dynamic, that are slotted in planning training for the soccer season.

Static stretching requires the kids to extend their muscles as far as they can and hold for a given duration of time. Recurring motions, rebounding, and rhythmic bouncing are performed by the players while doing dynamic stretching. In comparison with static stretching, it is more risky and less useful.

In this article, you’ll find some good points of stretching that can help average players become great players.

Stretching reduces injuries: Stretching helps bring down the risks of injury when performed over a period of time by stretching the muscles daily, thus promoting their growth. Stretching also provides a way of increasing the muscle size and strength.

Stretching affects flexibility: Stretching prevents loss of flexibility. Still, the effects of stretching are way better when it is done for a long period of time than for a shorter duration.

Stretching for some minutes prior to any occasion is liable to improve flexibility. When it comes to soccer training tips, the best bet is to distribute a stretching program over a predetermined length of time to continuously increase the range of motion.

Stretching improves performance: Stretches, when designed to be soccer specific can greatly improve a player’s performance.

Make stretching fun for the kids: You can do this by including a variety of soccer drills into your training regimen. Keep altering the warm up exercises that you do before stretching. Try tag games, ball tag, and keep away.

Concentrate all your energy on stretching, experience and identify with each stretch while checking for soreness.

For almost all players, one single 15-30 minute stretch for each muscle group is sufficient but some may need longer stretches and more repetitions.

The reason for this is that when the temperature of muscles is higher than normal, stiffness decreases and extensibility increases. Kids who feel like to keep up or enhance their flexibility can realize this goal to some extent by stretching. It’s advisable to perform stretching exercises when the body temperature is higher than normal as it is safer and more useful.

This is why some coaches tend to make their kids perform stretching exercises after a workout as well. If your kids stretch for 5-10 minutes after performing soccer skills, their muscles will not tighten too fast.

In general, players who do an active warm-up before stretching get an improved range of motion than kids who only stretch. So if injury prevention is your aim, stop stretching before exercise and increase the warm up time.

Some food for thought; one of the most important soccer training tips is that hurried stretching is meaningless and boring and doesn’t help your players gain flexibility, so allow them some extra time when they are feeling inflexible or stiff. Would you answer this simple question? Almost all soccer coaches tend to ignore the soccer training tips while designing training programs for kids with the intent of just making up the numbers and going through the motions. Are you doing the same thing?

Before you design your next training programs, make sure you set some specific goals for your team. Decide on what you wish to achieve from the training program and then take all steps necessary to realize your goals.

Include new, innovative, and exciting soccer drills in the training programs to introduce variety. It will allow the players to try something new instead to repeatedly doing the same drills every day. Once the kids enjoy participating in the training sessions, their performance will improve drastically.

Make your players understand the value of respecting and listening to you, their coach, no matter what their age or level at which they play. Mutual appreciation creates a friendly environment for both players and the coach.

A high level of flexibility greatly benefits every soccer player. The same is classified into 3 parts.

Dynamic flexibility: It refers to a player’s capability to perform fast movements within the full range of motion in the joint, like twisting from side to side.

Static active flexibility: It is the ability to stretch a difficult muscle using only the tension within that very muscle. For example; hold one leg as high as possible in front of you. When you do this, your hamstrings are stretched whilst the quadriceps and hip flexors hold your leg up.

Static passive: It is the ability to hold a stretch using your body weight or some other external force. For instance; hold your leg out in front of you and rest it on a chair.

Let’s now move on to the next step in following soccer training tips. This needs your attention with respect to kid’s sports gear and make sure that their attire is well suited to the weather.

Training for soccer and a fitness program should go hand in hand with a view to work upon those areas that need most help. Following are the factors that must be kept in mind when designing a training program like this.

Kid’s age: There is a direct connection between decrease in the flexibility of soft tissues and the reduced range of movement, as one grows older, notwithstanding the gender. But, if we remain active, the flexibility will always remain.

Gender: Girls are more flexible regardless of their age.

Action: Active kids are always better at performing soccer skills and exhibiting a greater range of movement that the inactive kids.

Injury: Injuries also hinder the range of motion in a joint.

Pain: Flexibility decreases as pain increases, resulting in muscle spasms. However, strength training does not hamper flexibility unless you don’t do the exercises correctly and not in full range of motion.

Heredity: How flexible is a player’s body depends upon a player’s genetics also.

A coach need to the essential soccer training tips in order to be able to train the kids properly especially, when he or she is playing the role of a coach while playing the game. It therefore becomes easy for you to include these tips in your soccer drills training session that take place 4 to 5 times a week as per your game’s standard.

You can help your players to perk up their performance by coaching them on these very important tips and techniques. They are as follows;

Educate your kids to keep moving the ball with one or two touches: This is known as inter passing in a team setting. Guide the players to play the ball with speed and make hard solid passes, whether it’s a 3 meter or 20 meter pass.

Play the ball and be in motion: Playing and moving contains the basic idea behind making runs. But you must ensure that these runs lead to effective goal scoring opportunities and open up spaces for the other team mates.

The basis of all soccer skills is the ability to pass accurately in order to create opportunities. The key here is setting up your defender. Instruct your players to draw near towards the defender, assuming that he or she is going to be able to get the ball, then give it and go, speed up into the open space to receive or return the pass.

Your players should be taught to change their pace once they’ve made a move to beat their opponent. Teach your kids to swiftly attack and attempt to keep moving the ball as fast as they can. When they get a chance to break, train them to retaliate with a few accurate passes.

When controlling the ball, teach players to keep the ball near their feet: Of all soccer training tips, the one to keep the head up and be aware of the movements in the field is very important. They should try and make contact with the ball on every step when dribbling it. This ensures a close control of the ball and then enhances a player’s ability to take the ball away from defenders.

Get the cross in: During the first part of the game, keep an eye on the goalkeeper and take shots on the goal. If the player is going to create a space and run between them, they should let the other team members know. It type of communication is necessary of the young players in the course of their development.

Training for soccer requires each player to learn to aim for the area along with 6 and 18 yard boxes. This will push the goalkeeper to come out in an endeavor to get the ball. This will have the effect of making the open and unguarded.

Keep an eye on the ball: Keep an eye on every player’s movement on the field at all times. Coach your players in such a way that they strictly follow the team’s approach and strategy for the day.
