When it comes to a simple thought like how to coach soccer, almost everyone gets into a spree of finding am appropriate reply. After all, youth soccer coaching is a dynamic and a difficult job and it is not easy to keep the players motivated to deliver under extreme pressure.
I’ll share 5 matchless tips that can never go wrong when it comes to enhancing your team’s performance.
1. Your plans should be comprehensive: Make complete and methodical plans if you wish to get the desired results in coaching. Have a heart to heart discussion with the players when you sit down to discuss and decide the team’s objectives and the timelines to reach them. Results not achieved within the decided timelines can disrupt your progress.
Once you’ve finalized the plan, remain committed to it but allow flexibility for minor adjustments. Even the best plans need modifications due to unanticipated situations.
2. Kids should enjoy being a part of practice sessions: Design your practice schedule in a way that includes a variety of drills, activities, fun-filled games and exercise so that the kids don’t feel the monotony. It is possible to incorporate this in many ways. For example: make it a ritual to allow some time after practice to let the kids indulge in games and activities so that they can relax and enjoy playing casually.
3. Both freedom and discipline should complement one another: A coach should always give priority to discipline in the team. But, what is important to understand is that freedom is also as important for the kids to feel strongly towards discipline. Don’t underestimate the value of freedom and relaxation in teaching soccer.
Between the drills, leave some time for the players to relax, share time with each other or simply unwind. The concept of how to coach soccer also encapsulates a good idea to take them out on an excursion once in a while.
4.Always be supportive and tolerant: Encourage your team to try new things and when you do so, also be tolerant of the mistakes that they make in the process. Keep scrutinizing their activities. If your intervention is necessary because the situation is out of control, correct it but without scolding the kids.
Bear in mind that when you retort, the kids feel intimidated and when you show compassion and encouragement, they feel motivated to do even better.
5. Balance things: It is in training sessions that kids get to know about their soccer skills and inherent talent. It is expected that in a team, there are some great players, some regular, while others are poor in performance. It becomes your obligation as a coach to use your best players to improve the poor ones.
Group the bad players with the good ones so that the bad players learn from their good counterparts during and after the sessions. It is also important that there are no comparisons drawn out amongst players at any point in time.
Your objective now is to make sure that you use these tips to improve your approach about how to coach soccer.
