You may not be with me on this but even the listen to me. In order to train those kids who are attending high school or college, training methods in kids soccer drills are very different. This is because the former are in the first stage of the learning curve while the latter have a good idea as to what is it that they prefer to do and what not.

But, there are certain methods that can be used in soccer drills for kids which will help them become exceptional soccer players. Always remember that kids would love to play the game only for so long as it interests them. They will feel pressured if their interest continues to decline. They get under pressure to quit the sport. Allow the kids to take their own sweet time to absorb the pressures.

A lot of kids like playing the game because it’s fun whereas many other play for the sake of their parents. In either case, kids don’t consider any amount of rewards or trophies for playing the game. Many soccer coaches tend to completely ignore this aspect in kids soccer drills. They press them hard to achieve the daily targets in terms of performance level, physical stamina and skills. It directly affects the kids and their confidence is shaken in the game.

In planning soccer drills for kids, it’s normal for a new coach to feel somewhat troubled initially. This may be the result of kid’s unruly behavior. But, it’s okay. It may take a little while but they would certainly understand the importance of punctuality and teamwork. You should make sure that all boys spend ample time on the ground and that you praise them wherever due. Also, it is equally important to penalize the boys who do not follow the stated rules and regulations.

But be cautious with it. Do not be abusive with the kid. He should not be mocked or made fun of. As an example, you can keep the boy away from a training session as a punishment.

What if I told you that coaches do make such mistakes in kids soccer drills that have the potential to destroy a team and make it a loser. Yes, that’s correct. Lot of people must be busy finding out the big reason responsible for a team’s such great downfall. Well, let it be known that there are many.

To take steps pertaining to soccer drills for kids, be very alert and calculative. You need to understand the psychology of the kids. Speak with them in a language that they can understand well. But sadly, most coaches are not ready to adapt to this. They do not appreciate the difference between coaching the kids and coaching mature players.

So this is it; let me share some blunders that coaches make which reduce their teams to rubble.

1. To many coaches, their job appears to be very simple. They do not plan the sessions, prepare the drills, or bother about reaching the field in time. Activities like these not merely put off the kids but are also terrible. You cannot be non-serious when the kids take soccer so seriously. Youth soccer drills should be pre-planned. If you need certain equipment to carry out the drills, arrange it before hand.

Be on time. Do not come to the field after kids. In reality, be present there to welcome the kids. This will also give you some time to rehearse the drills or arrange for things.

2. Before the sessions, when the coaches impart instructions for kids soccer drills, they get so lost in it so as to loose track of the time. Can you believe how boring that can be? Understand that kids come to play soccer, not to hear your long lectures. Always speak for less amount of time. These sessions should be used to boost the confidence of the kids as well as motivate them.

It is crucial that you do not interrupt the kids when they are playing. If you have observed anything that needs to be corrected, note it and discuss it after the drill. Also, you should be outside the field when the kids are enjoying the game.

3. Some coaches get ruthless and unkind while dealing with the kids. In soccer drills for youth, both the characters can prove disastrous. It may prove counter productive to show your emotions on the field. It is fine for the kids to make errors. Do not forget that they are children. There is no need to get sensitive about it and be rude to the players.

When this happens, you are making the kids loose interest and also making things difficult for yourself. Soccer is a game of the intelligent. Help the kids understand this so that they get inspired by you.

Dribbling is the art of maintaining control of the ball while moving around in the field. The kids are first and foremost trained the art of dribbling at a starting level.

Teach the players to be vigilant and keep track of the ball. While dribbling kids must remain aware of the events in the filed and pay attention on the ball simultaneously.

Assist them in working upon their weak foot. Soccer drills for youth should include continuous striking of the ball against a wall using the bad foot which will help them improve slowly. In the free time encourage the kids to play with the ball. Tell them to sit down, take a ball and use the weaker foot to just roll it back and forth. Every time they do it, their capacity to maintain ball’s control will increase.

Kids Soccer Drills: 4 Tips To Warm-up

In kids soccer drills, it’s surprising that warm up before playing is considered unimportant. It is something that being a coach, I would want to stress that warming up is obligatory and an important practice to lead the team towards a better start of the day. This issue is conveniently ignored as unimportant by the coaches in youth soccer drills. The consequences are then faced by the players when they suffer injuries in training.

This article will provide you an insight into warming up techniques for the team. Teach the kids to include all the body movements that allow all muscles in the body to get worked up. This is the right way to wake up the entire nervous system. Rigorous sessions can result in stiffness and cramping of the muscles.

Tip 1: Have the players jog for about 5-7 minutes initially. It’s advisable to begin with a light jog and then move on to sprinting. The pulse rate must get to 120 beats per minute in this. Yet, the rate should increase gradually. Then make them swing their legs forward cross-body for about 10 times each. Lastly, have them actively stretch their body over 20 yards.

Tip 2: Talking of active stretching over 20 yards, it should be noted that it should be accompanied with some warm up exercises of its own. For example, make the players skip forward and backward. Teach the players cross stepping as well. Also teach them high-knee carioca. You can have these performed similar to sprinting.

Backward run is also a highly effective warm up drill in soccer drills for kids. However the right way to do it is to kick up the heels to the butt. It’s actually tough to practice it like this but there’s no choice as it’s the single most and right way of doing it.

Tip 3: There are various other warm up drills in kids soccer drills that build up the energy for practice sessions. The players can be taught to hop with swings and loops. These give an extra dimension to the skipping exercises. You can also make them cross-over skip. Quick Hip Swings, though it’s slightly complex, can also be used to warm up the body intensively as it’s a very valuable and tested means.

Then you can tell your players to do long shuffles with rotations in the middle. Make them practice forward and backward leg swings. This is a highly effective and useful body toning activity. Equally effective are high leg forwards and backwards.

Tip 4: Stretching should be adequate and correctly executed. For the legs, stretch hinging works the best. Ensure that every kid works out hamstring, quadriceps, groin and calf without exceptions. Stretching has the benefit of preventing injury along with increasing the muscle range.

It is also essential to note that in soccer drills for youth, kids abstain from overdoing anything. They tend to get carried over by enthusiasm and injure themselves unnecessarily.

As a coach, I just cannot emphasize enough that warming up before sessions is not just mandatory but also a great way to kick start your training sessions. This issue is conveniently ignored as unimportant by the coaches in youth soccer drills. This has an end result in terms of injuries to players when in the practice sessions.

This article gives you some nice tips on how to get the team warmed up. Train the team to use the body movements in a way that all the muscles get worked up. This is the right way to wake up the entire nervous system. Rigorous sessions can result in stiffness and cramping of the muscles.
