If you think like me you would most certainly realize the value of integrating free soccer training drills so that every player in the team learns how to throw the ball in. During the youth soccer drills, around 70 percent of throw-ins are foul throws which makes the ball go in other team’s control.

It is therefore imperative that every player in your team must be prepared to carry out a proper throw-in and get the ball into play almost instantly. Thus the player may easily go behind the defense and make a hit for the ball.

All that is required to teach the players to get the ball back into play quickly is some simple actions and moves, performed correctly at the U-10 level and below.

While performing free soccer training drills, some soccer coaches tend to rely only on one or two players to take all throw-ins. These kind of players are named as designated throwers. The designated thrower is, for obvious reasons, the most worn out player on the field. He is required to sprint up and down the sideline and even across the field, to take a simple throw in.

Free Soccer Training Drills: A Guide To Switching The Ball

The quick switch or the blind pass: Train one or two of your mid-fielders to dribble to the right, using the right foot, and then swing the ball to the left, sending almost a blind pass.Rapid Switching or the Blind Pass: Develop a skill in one or two mid-fielders to move the ball with right foot while kicking it to the left, showing almost a blind pass. Left-footed mid-fielder, can perform the trick by moving the ball using the left foot and throwing it back to the right side using left foot.

The defender on the other side will not be expecting the pass and your team can catch the opposing team sleeping.

Soccer Drills

You should train the players to make switching the ball a habit; keeping all others to be ready for this type of pass. This is one of the difficult techniques in soccer drills, but it will assure everyone’s full involvement in the soccer practice.

This drill requires six small goals on either side of the pitch. The team scores where the player runs through the goals which are placed in the middle, while playing from the back. Passing through the last goals will yield two points and will encourage switching.

In performing free soccer training drills, make sure that the goals are wide enough to explain that there is no use simply positioning a player between them to stop a run or pass. One player should be assigned to run through the point A to B. To prevent the attackers to score, the players must remain between the goal.

Young defenders have tendency to move away from their designated positions. They normally gather around the ball. Thus the attackers should always be alert of the target areas and try to switch the game to the other area while making use of the defenders absence in that area.

During following sessions of football drills, try to teach them to cover the entire width of the ground. Teach them the skills and rehearse a few moves with them to let them know where the attacking threat might come from.

Instant Free Soccer Training Drills Anyone Can Practice

There are some free soccer training drills using which you can master the art of passing and shooting as well as controlling the ball. In this article, you will know about 2 of the well-known soccer drills, Shoulder To Shoulder and Shark in the Middle.

Shoulder To Shoulder is a drill that is intended for defensive as well as offensive players. The objective of this drill is to teach the offensive player to master fast shooting under pressure and the defensive players to clean the ball.

This drill utilizes 3 players in each drill group. The distance between A and B is about 10-15 yards.

B and the defensive player line up shoulder to shoulder. B and the defensive player, standing along with each other, face away from the goal on the left side of the field. On the coach’s whistle, A throws the ball behind other two players. B and the defensive player initiate and attempt to take control of the ball. B’s goal is to take shot on the goal while the defensive player’s objective is to turn with the ball and dribble it above the center line.

By actively choosing coaching drills like Shoulder to Shoulder, players learn to win the ball despite being under immense pressure from an opposing player.

Shark in the Middle is an enjoyable game which the team can play at any time during practice and you can set its duration as per your requirement. This is one of those free soccer training drills that is aimed at developing attentiveness and self-control in players under high pressure situations.

Players make a large circle in the field. A player is then designated as a shark and made to stand in the middle of the circle. There is only one ball in it and given to a person who stands in the circle.

When the whistle is blown, the player who has the ball passes it to the other one along the circle. Then the second player passes the ball to another player he likes and so on.

Then you blow the whistle again and it means that the game should start. The purpose of the game is to keep the ball away from the shark. The player may choose to pass the ball to anyone he wishes to, be it a teammate right next to him or a teammate far away. The players attempt to make as many passes as they can.

This process continues until the shark captures the ball.

When the ball is caught, the player that caused the ball to be intercepted becomes the new shark and the first shark joins others along the circle.

Shark in the Middle is one of those football drills that demands a great deal of thinking and the ability to act like a shark.
